Most of the equipment used in kiting should be resistant to oxidisation, hence the high use of stainless steel for pulleys, quick release mechanisms, shackles, buggies and so on.
There are several grades of stainless steel (as listed in Wikipedia) but to be honest, this is not an area of expertise for me, besides which, I only need to know that it’s actually stainless and therefore less likely to rust!
The shackle is normally used to connect the quick release mechanism (snap shackle) to the harness
